Being a large managed care company, we are often faced with challenges in terms of finding quality staff to fulfill various project needs. We had a case management utilization project that was temporarily shelved but definitely needed attention. Good for us though, we found a reliable data modeler via partnering with Thor. Not only did this resource work on said shelved project, but proceeded to work as DA on a priority inquiry management project. He helped establish new and better development methods. He got along great with his peers and completed the projects accurately and on time. We decided to extended his contract due to his impressive work performance. Overall, our partnership with Thor was very rewarding. Kudos to the Thor team!
Our company was going through a significant consolidation of various business divisions all across N. America to the point where we were in need of an HR Data & Analytics resource to help with these priority changes. Thor provided a resource that knew our HRIS system and various BI tools as well as our industry. This made these internal changes much more effective and efficient. We were glad we called Thor.
This client needed to be able to report on expected medical claims. The Thor Group was able to provide a Data Modeler. After testing and user acceptance the Thor Group candidate was able to turn over their work to the DBAs. The DBAs used the Claims Modeler in production later in the year.
We are a mid-sized insurance provider with limited resources in our IT group. When our BI Analyst gave her 2 week notice we were in a panic to find a resource quickly to meet our daily business needs. We turned to Thor Group and they were able to provide a part-time remote consultant to hanlde our needs on a as-needed basis. This ended up saving us money in the long, by not needing to hire a full-time employee.
Our organization provides business intelligence consulting to various government entities. We were in need of a BI Dashboard Builder for one of our newly signed client contracts. This was a very difficult search due to the necessary scope of work and client geographic location. We engaged with Thor to fill our need and they found the right fit quicker than we had imagined. We continue to work with Thor as new needs arise.
We were migrating from CPSI to another system due to our merger with a larger healthcare organization. The Thor Group provided a CPSI database analyst to help extract and place the data in a new database. There were no issues or lost data during the process. We were very pleased with the end result. I would recommend Thor Group to others with similar needs.
Equally important, most have experience with multiple ERP, HR, SCM, CRM and other systems. Moreover, many are grounded in an assortment of areas: Web, Social Media, Mobile and Data to name a few.
In the last few years, data volumes have grown and the way we use data has changed. Here are five of the top database management challenges companies face.
1. Growing complexity in landscape
We alluded to this earlier. As the database market evolves, many companies are finding it difficult to evaluate and choose a solution. There are relational databases, columnar databases, object-oriented databases, and NoSQL databases. Not to mention the plethora of vendors offering their own spin on each.
2. Limits on scalability
The fact is, all software has scalability and resource usage limitations, including database servers. Forward thinking companies concerned about transaction processing capacity know that cataloging components, database architecture, and even operating systems and hardware configuration all affect scalability.
3. Increasing data volumes
As the amount of data generated and collected explodes, companies are struggling to keep up. Research shows that weāve created more data in the past two years than in the entirety of the human race. Yet, a 10% increase in data accessibility could generate more than $65 million additional net income for a typical Fortune 1000 company.
4. Data security
Databases are the hidden workhorses of many companiesā IT systems, storing critical public and private data. Lately, there has been an understandable and high-profile focus on data security. A data breach typically costs a company $4 million, not to mention loss of reputation and goodwill.
5. Decentralized data management
Although there are benefits to decentralized data management, it presents challenges as well. How will the data be distributed? Whatās the best decentralization method? Whatās the proper degree of decentralization? A major challenge in designing and managing a distributed database results from the inherent lack of centralized knowledge of the entire database.
