One of the largest defense contractors in the United
States needed to develop an automated shop floor system for the manufacturing
control and assembly of the F/A-18 fighter aircraft. The client wanted
a distributed workstation environment to deliver the final product.
The companys technical staff was consumed with other projects.
Due to this lack of resources, the project manager was experiencing
difficulty finding quality UNIX administrators for the project. Thor
consultants had successfully assisted on projects in the past, so the
Technical Manager contacted Thor for help.
Using our in-depth consultative approach to identify business challenges
and recommend matching business solutions, Thor developed a team of
four quality UNIX administrators who possessed application-coding experience
as well. Because the Technical Manager was so impressed with each individual,
he felt comfortable rotating these individuals to assignments and the
project proceeded. As time passed, the project became much larger than
first expected, and the four consultants from Thor, became the core
staff for the two-year implementation. These Thor professionals were
key to the successful implementation of the shop floor system, for which
the Navy gave the company an award.
Thor assisted our client through the entire process, understanding the
requirements and realigning activities, so that the client could complete
the project successfully. This has resulted in a long lasting business
relationship that exists to this day.
